Introduction

This study aims to investigate the influence of these two factors on the interest in visiting the Regional Public Library of Professor Lafran Pane in South Tapanuli Regency.

Background

Public libraries have been a cornerstone of education and community development for centuries. However, with the advent of digital media, many people are turning to online resources, and the interest in visiting public libraries has decreased. To combat this trend, libraries must adopt innovative marketing strategies to attract visitors and promote their services. Exhibitions and social media advertising are two such strategies that have gained popularity in recent years.

Exhibitions provide a unique opportunity for libraries to showcase their collections, promote their services, and engage with the community. By hosting exhibitions, libraries can create a positive experience for visitors, build emotional relationships with the community, and increase public interest in utilizing library services. Methodology

This study used a quantitative approach to investigate the influence of exhibitions and social media advertising on the interest in visiting the Regional Public Library of Professor Lafran Pane in South Tapanuli Regency. The research sample consisted of 362 active users listed in the Lafran Pane Library between March and July 2021. Using Purposive Sampling Sampling Techniques and Slovin Formulas, 78 respondents were chosen who were subjects in this study.

The analysis method used was descriptive analysis and multiple linear regression. This study is included in the associative research category, with data obtained through documentation and questionnaires using Likert scale. The data collected was statistically processed using SPSS software. The tests carried out included partial tests, simultaneous tests, and coefficient of determination (R²).

Results

The results of the analysis showed that both exhibitions and social media advertisements had a simultaneous significant influence on the interest of visits. Partially, the exhibition variables and social media advertisements through the Instagram platform also showed a positive and significant effect on the interest of visits to the library.

The adjusted R square value was 0.422, which indicated that 42.2% variations in the interest in visiting the library could be explained by exhibitions and social media advertisements. While the rest, which is 58.8%, is influenced by other factors that are not examined in this study.

Discussion

The effect of exhibitions and social media on the interest of visits in the library shows that good communication strategies can increase public interest in utilizing library services. Interesting exhibitions can create positive experiences for visitors, as well as building emotional relationships between libraries and the community.

On the other hand, social media as a promotional platform has great potential in reaching a wider audience. The use of Instagram as one of the advertising channels reflects the library efforts to follow the increasing digital trends. By creating interesting and informative visual content, the library can be more effective in attracting the interest of the younger generation.

However, it is essential to note that although exhibitions and social media have a significant influence, other factors such as service quality, book collection, and place comfort also need attention. Library managers must consider a holistic approach to increasing the interest of visits, so that the library can function as an effective and attractive information center for the community.

Conclusion

This study provides valuable insights into the influence of exhibitions and social media advertising on the interest in visiting the Regional Public Library of Professor Lafran Pane in South Tapanuli Regency. The results of the study show that both exhibitions and social media advertisements have a significant influence on the interest of visits. However, it is essential to note that other factors such as service quality, book collection, and place comfort also need attention.
